Wine Club About 15 to 20 of us gather to sample different Wines from a variety of suppliers. Enjoy some fine food and trips away, great group of people to have fun with.
Euchre Section 2010 saw the Euchre Section membership increase. Although still only a small section we have been able to hold our own among the other chartered clubs with members travelling to several major tournaments. Our section fielded full teams for the Monthly Inter Club Competitions finishing 4 among the 8 Clubs taking part. Once again we hosted our annual Tournament with 64 Players taking part. Thank you to all our members and helpers for making the day a success. Looking back over the year the highlight would have to be having a full team of Eight Players travel to the Hornby Club in Christchurch to take part in the Club New Zealand National Euchre Championships. This was especially exciting as not only was this the first Nationals we have sent players to but 5 of our eight players managed to make the final cut and play in the finals scoring well up in the points. We look forward to 2011 with players planning to represent us at both the CNZ Euchre Nationals and the CNZ North Island Singles and Teams Championship.

So don't hesitate for one second longer and join us today and let the fun begin. |
Vets Section It gives me great pleasure to once again present this report on the activities of the Vets and over 60's for the past year 2009. At the AGM meeting in March the outgoing Committee was again re-elected unopposed for the next twelve months.. Dave Johnston, Chairman, Jessie Brown, Vice Chaimlan, Chris. Bell, Secretary, Marge Welch, Treasurer, Freda Stanney, Aola Johnston, Pauline Bell and Bill Lord. It has once again been a pleasure to work with this team throughout the year. Early in the year a very successful trip away to the Palmerston North area was organised by Chris, and Pauline. They also arranged our more local trips to such places as the wonderful Banners" Theatre, Huntly RSA , East Coast Bays RSA, Raglan RSA, Warkworth RSA and Howick RSA. These trips were always enjoyed by those participated, but sad to say our last two trips were poorly attended. At some venues we were entertained, at some we spent our money in the local shops and always the "pokies" received their share of attention. My thanks to Jim Taia and his drivers for delivering us safely and never getting lost. Sad to say we had no visits from kindred clubs to our monthly functions. It was pleasing to note that attendances increased early in the year, but fell off in the latter months. It was gratifying to me to see that nearly all were wearing their name badges at our meetings, I feel sure this is one way that we will all get to know one another on a much more friendly basis. You have supported our raffles each month which enabled the Committee to subsidise some of our Christmas function activities. My special thanks go to Vice President Jessie for the many long hours she has spent packing up those wonderful variety raffle packages, for keeping our birthday and anniversary records. I arranged our entertainers including Paul Fletcher (some mothers do have them), Col'n'co, our wonderful skiffle group, The Valley Voices, Rob Innes, Russel Shirley and Paul Bennet. Thanks to Chris, and Pauline for their work on our trips and for arranging the meat raffles, to Marg for keeping our finances healthy; to Freda and Aola for looking after the ticket sales for our raffles and finally to Bill Lord for handing out those drink tickets, to Dean and his catering staff for the excellent meals they provided us with and last but not least to our office staff who were always there when we wanted them. Although restricted to Papakura members only, our Christmas function was as always a great success. I am sure you all enjoyed the "freebies" that we were able to offer thanks to your continued support of our raffles over the year. Sad to say during the year quite a number of our members did not enjoy the best of health, several passed away. To all relatives and friends may I on behalf of all our members offer you our deepest sympathy? Thank you one and all, for your continued support over the year |
