Do you have an intense desire to fish . . . then read on
Members of the Papakura RSA Fishing Section are a bunch of people who have a PASSION for fishing.
Members get together most months on the Hauraki Gulf with Alan on Cobalt - a beautiful boat superbly set-up for Charter fishing. Thanks to Alan's vast fishing expertise, there's been many a fantastic day fishing with regular boat limit catches. From time-to-time, other trips are arranged for those interested in going further afield to try different types of fishing.
Recently, a group of 12 from the Section travelled to Kerekeri. Our hosts, the Kerekeri Club (formerly the Kerekeri RSA) were superb. The Charter we shared with our hosts left from Paihia, but didn't produce quite the fish numbers we are used to. Nevertheless, Papakura RSA were successful in winning the inaugural trophy for the heaviest fish. Papakura RSA Fishing Section is looking forward to hosting the Kerekeki Club Fishing Section for a weekend in November.
Course Fishing (in local farm ponds and the like) is also on the calendar for the first time this year. Members can gather for a fish in a relaxed social atmosphere and share a BBQ lunch. Other trips include Trout fishing and fishing off the Mussel barges at Thames. The Take a Kid Fishing Tournament is an opportunity for most of the members to get together on dry land for a change. This is a fund day at Slippery Creek, Drury. The Tournament encourages children from the community to pick up a fishing rod and "give it a go". The day finishes with a BBQ for members. The Section is grateful for sponsors' continued support of this event. If you are interested in joining the Fishing Section, contact the Papakura RSA office for contact details.
