Snooker
Section THIS SITE WILL BE UPDATED WHEN THE INFORMATION IS GIVEN TO US BY THE SECTION
Internal tournaments were well supported with the over 70's inaugural event having popular support and sponsorship from CDP Security and Harveys Real Estate Papakura. Tony Beanland collected five trophies from other tournaments along with the well-deserved prize money. It was pleasing to note the appearance of some new names amongst the Tournament winners and runners-up, and also the addition of six new regulars to our Thursday Night snooker. The 'Battle of the Bombays' failed to gain support but the coming year should bring plenty of interest with the hosting of the RNZRSA 2006 National Pairs Championship on Queens Birthday weekend. The Committee are as one in their desire to promote the interests of the snooker section and the broader interests of all the RSA members. It was this approach that allowed us to participate in the 'Wide screen project'. Particular thanks go to John Cullen for his initiative. The Club (through Vi's raffle sales) are repaying this loan in timely fashion. Financially, the section continued to gain strength (with a projected profit of $878 ) and this augurs well for the coming year. I would like to thank our regular competition players for their attendance through the year and also the RSA members who regularly supported our Thursday night raffles. Thanks to the Committee for so diligently carrying out the work of organizing competitions and running of raffles etc, and also to Eddie Hanford for grooming the tables to the high standard which we have appreciated for so many years. TUESDAY'S WINNERS, 1ST, FREDA & MARSHALL, 2ND, DAVE & LINDSAY, 3RD, KEVIN & EWOK. Another year has gone by with a few hiccups at the beginning of the year, but thankfully things have started to smooth themselves out and we have moved on. I believe we have a strong section and would like to pass on my personal thanks to all the people who assisted us during this difficult period. Our players, and supporters, RSA patrons, bar staff, Restaurant staff, RSA President Gary Walker, John Cullen our committee rep, and finally our "caretaker committee of dedicated hard working people". Our program includes Tuesday Club Nights, social home and away games, In house tournaments and the "Friendship Tournament" which was hosted by New Lynn RSA, won by New Lynn, with Papakura runners up. A great team effort. No Section can function without effort and input. To Our Secretary Janis, Treasurer Jill, and our fundraising group of Heather, Jill and David, Thanks for a job well done. Our Club Captain is standing down after many years at the helm. To Lofty and all the members who assisted or stood in for him with the running of the board and tournaments, this year namely Eddie B, Eddie T, Dave D, Janis, Ants, and Dave H. Thank you. For our regular written updates on snowball and tournaments results we thank Eddie Baverstock. To summarize, no one individual can claim credit for success, all members involved must share in the honours, and therefore achievements is truly a team effort. To our incoming committee, Chairperson, office holders, Club Captain, Vice Captain, and committee members, best wishes for 2006. On behalf of the committee I wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy new year Arthur Anderson Chairman |
